Kilchoman Machir Bay – A Modern Islay Classic
The Kilchoman Machir Bay is the core expression of the independent Kilchoman Distillery located on the island of Islay, Scotland. Founded in 2005, Kilchoman is one of the few true farm distilleries in Scotland, producing whisky from barley grown on the island.
The whisky is named after Machir Bay, one of Islay’s most famous beaches, whose Atlantic climate and coastal character inspired this expression.
Maturation in Bourbon and Sherry Casks
The whisky is matured primarily in ex-bourbon barrels, providing notes of vanilla and citrus fruits. A smaller proportion of Oloroso sherry casks adds additional richness, fruitiness and spice.
Aroma and Flavor
On the nose, the Kilchoman Machir Bay offers aromas of peat smoke, citrus fruits and vanilla. The palate is rich and balanced with notes of malt sweetness, caramel, pepper and sea salt. The finish is long, smoky and slightly maritime.
